St. Cecily’s English Medium Higher Primary School, Udupi commemorated National Sports Day on August 29, 2024 with great enthusiasm and fervour. The day was dedicated to honouring the legendary Indian hockey player, Dhyan Chand, whose birthday it was. The event aimed to inspire students to embrace a healthy lifestyle, cultivate sportsmanship, and strive for excellence in athletic pursuits.

The celebration began with a prayer service, followed by an introduction by Chrishma of Grade 6. Vineeth of Grade 7 extended a warm welcome to the esteemed chief guest, Stuti P Shetty ex cecilian(State athlete).

Joslyn of Grade 8 elaborated on the significance of the day. To enhance the festive atmosphere, the students presented a variety of cultural performances, including dance, music, and skits. These performances showcased the artistic talents of the students and added a touch of entertainment to the event.

Stuti P Shetty, the chief guest of the day, emphasized in her speech the importance of sports in promoting physical and mental health, building character, and fostering teamwork. She encouraged the students to pursue their athletic dreams with passion and perseverance.

The celebration concluded with the prize distribution. The awards for the winners of the fancy dress competition, AICS Udupi district throwball, and Chess board were presented by the chief guest and school officials. Tanvith R of Grade 7 and Ananya R of Grade 6 were awarded as Exemplary Students of 2023-24. The recognition served as a motivation for the students to continue their athletic endeavours and strive for excellence.

A heartfelt vote of thanks was given by Fiona of Grade 7. Ritika of Grade 6 served as the master of ceremonies for the programme. The National Sports Day celebration at St. Cecily’s English Medium Higher Primary School, Udupi was a resounding success. The event not only honoured the legacy of Dhyan Chand but also inspired the students to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, camaraderie, and a celebration of athletic achievement.
